Television Production Classes

MCT offers field and studio production classes to Montgomery County residents and organizations. Upon completion of a class, students are certified to be volunteer producers or technicians. Certification allows individuals to utilize MCT's equipment and facilities to produce their own program or volunteer on other productions.

Location
All classes are held at 7548 Standish Place in Rockville, Maryland. For directions, click on office hours and directions.

Eligibility
All Montgomery County residents or non-residents acting on behalf of a non-profit organization based in the County are eligible to take the courses. Individuals under 18 years of age must have written permission from a parent or guardian to enroll in a course. The minimum age is 13.

Registration
Call MCT's Client Services Department at (301) 424-1730 to sign up. MCT will mail registration forms six to eight weeks before classes begin. Please keep in mind that classes fill up quickly so you should return your registration forms promptly to get in your first choice of classes. Classes

Field Producer Class

Wednesday 7-10 p.m. or Saturday 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
10 sessions

Prerequisite: None
Cost: $125 plus member dues of $40

Have you ever wondered what it takes to produce and direct a television program? You'll find out during this ten-week field production class where you will learn the basics of being a producer and director out on location. Producers are taught how to develop and idea, script it, direct the camera shots and edit the final program. During the class, you will actually produce a program which will air on the Open Channel!

Field Technician Classes


Prerequisite: Intro to Video Basics
Cost: $125 plus member dues of $40

Learn how to be a camera operator, lighting technician, audio operator and editor during this ten-week field production class. You will get hands-on experience with our complete field operation package. You will also shoot and edit a program which will air on the Open Channel!

Studio Producer Class

In this class, you will learn all the steps to creating a studio program, including scriptwriting, lighting and set design. You will also co-produce a half-hour program. After the class, you will be certified to produce any type of studio show, including talk shows, public affairs programs, dramatic productions, music shows and more!

Studio Technician Class

In this class, you will learn all the technical crew positions for a multi-camera studio production. Students are taught the operation of the cameras, switcher, audio board, teleprompter, character generator and videotape decks. After completing the class, you will be certified to work on a variety of studio shows.

Studio Director Class

In this class, you will learn how to be a studio director, assistant director, and floor director by working on a series of class exercises and actual cable shows. After completing the course, you will be certified to direct a studio program!
